25th anniversary of Hungary's NATO-accession

After the convincing result of the domestic referendum on Hungary's NATO accession (85% of those participating in the vote voted for membership), Hungary officially became a full member of NATO on March 12, 1999.

It was 25 years ago, on 12 March 1999 that Hungary became a full-fledged member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO). Four days later, on 16 March 1999, the national flag of Hungary was raised at NATO Headquarters in Brussels. Hungary has ever since been an active and dedicated member of the Alliance, and has been striving for the safeguarding and strengthening international peace and stability together with its 31 allies.
