Attention!

A visa is only a preliminary permission for entry, which does not authorize its bearer automatically to enter the country. The traveller may be requested to provide proof of the existence of the conditions of his entry and stay in Hungary and, if he is not able to fulfil this, he may be returned from the border.

 

Types of Schengen visas

 

1.) Short stay uniform visa (C-type):

 

Who should apply for a visa?

Omani nationals, as well as third country nationals legally residing in these countries and in case of their country of origin has no visa waiver agreement with Hungary are required to apply for a visa to Hungary.


General Schengen visa information

Schengen States issue uniform visas for short stay visit not exceeding 90 days in any 180-day period. The Schengen visa may be issued for a single entry (as a rule for the 1st time visitors of the Schengen area), for two entries, or as a multiple entry visa in case the applicant proves the need or justifies the intention to travel frequently as well as proves his/her integrity and reliability, in particular the lawful use of previous Schengen visas, etc. (as per Schengen Visa Code, Article 24).

If your travel destination is only Hungary, the Hungarian Embassy in Muscat will deal with your application. If your travel destination includes more than one Schengen Member State, your application must be dealt by the Embassy/Consulate of your main destination. The following criteria may help you to decide whether you should submit your visa application at the Embassy of Hungary:

  1. Hungary is the sole destination of your visit(s);
  2. Your visit to Schengen States includes more than one destination and Hungary is the main destination of the visit(s) in terms of the length or purpose of stay;
  3. If you cannot determine which is your main destination, but Hungary is the first Schengen State you wish to enter.

Please note that the Embassy of Hungary in Muscat issues visas only for residents - or for applicants legally residing - in its territory of its responsibility.


How to submit a visa application?

  • Book an appointment online at the website of BLS International. Please note that Schengen visa applications have to be submitted between 180 and 15 days before the travel date.
  • Download the C-type visa application form and complete it properly.
  • The passport has to have at least 2 blank pages titled "VISA" (preferably facing each other) and had to be issued within the previous 10 years. Its validity shall extend at least three months after the intended date of departure from the territory of the member States or, in the case of several visits, after the last intended date of departure from the territory of the Member States.
  • List of supporting documents to submit with the application:
  1. valid flight ticket (return);
  2. valid hotel reservation;
  3. travel medical insurance valid for Schengen countries (The minimum coverage shall be EUR 30 000);
  4. passport copy;
  5. 1 passport picture (taken within 6 months),
  6. original employment letter including monthly salary;
  7. for non-GCC nationals: copy of the Omani ID card;
  8. for non-GCC nationals: bank statement of the last 6 months, stamped by the bank;
  9. in case of family visit: in addition to the above, an invitation letter as described in the previous indent or a letter signed by the applicant in full awareness of his/her criminal liability describing the degree of the family relation, giving the name, address and phone number of the family member and the purpose of the entry and stay;
  10. in case of a business trip: in addition to the above, in case there already exists a business partner in Hungary: a letter of invitation from the business partner, proof of the existence of commercial business relations; or the certificate of the local chamber of commerce on the existence of business relations.
  11. in case of attending conference: in addition to the above, the invitation or confirmation of the conference organizer a certificate of participation and/or the sending organization; proof of payment of the conference participation fee document.

 

How long does it take to get a visa?

The length of the process depends on many different factors. As a general rule, the maximum time a Schengen visa process can take is 15 days. In individual cases the period may be extended up to a maximum of 45 calendar days. In case of countries with a visa facilitation agreement with the EU this time period is 10 days. The consulate does not take any responsibility for delayed, inconclusive submission and for therefore failed travels.

The consul checks the visa application:

  • consults the Schengen Information System (SISII), inspects former visas issued to the applicant;
  • may consult with competent authorities of other Member States in particular cases;
  • may consult the National Directorate-General for Aliens Policing and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade;
  • may consult with foreign representations of other Schengen States;
  • may request an interview with the applicant;
  • may request the presentation of further documents or certificates in addition to the ones already attached to the application.

 

Submitting an appeal

If the application for a visa is refused, the fee will not be reimbursed. In case of a visa refusal, the applicant may lodge an appeal with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary (MFAT) to seek annulment of the decision by means of a petition to be handed over personally to the Consular Section of the Hungarian Embassy within 8 days after notification (by phone/ by mail/personally) of the refusal. The appeal has no special form and formalities but must be dated and signed by the appellate. The MFAT will review the application and make a decision.

In 2024, the fee of the appeal is 68 OMR for C-type visa cases.

 

 

2.) Airport transit visa (A):

Authorizes the bearer to enter the international zone of the airport and to remain there until the time of the departure of the flight to the destination country. Only nationals of the following states are obliged to apply for an airport transit visa: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia and Sri Lanka.

The following categories of persons shall be exempt from the requirement to hold an airport transit visa:

a) Holders of a valid uniform visa, national long-stay visa or residence permit issued by a Member State;

b) Third-country nationals holding a valid visa issued by

•Bulgaria, Cyprus, Romania, Croatia, Liechtenstein, Ireland, United Kingdom

•Canada, Japan, United States of America

•or when they return from the above mentioned countries after having used the visa;

The visa exemption for holders of valid visas issued by Bulgaria, Cyprus, Romania, Croatia, Ireland, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan or the United States of America is independent of whether the holder is travelling to the visa issuing country or to another third country.

If the third-country citizen’s visa issued by Bulgaria, Cyprus, Romania, Croatia, Ireland, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan or the United States of America has expired and the citizen wants to travel back from a country different from the visa issuing country, the citizen is not exempt from the requirements to hold an airport transit visa.

c) Third-country nationals holding the valid residence permits issued by

•Ireland, United Kingdom

•Andorra, Canada, Japan, San Marino or the United States of America guaranteeing the holder’s unconditional readmission;

d) for family members of citizens of the Union effective under the 2004/38/EEC irrespectively whether travelling alone, in attendance upon the citizen of the Union or for joining the citizen of the Union;

e) Holders of diplomatic passports;

f) Flight crew members who are nationals of a contracting Party to the Chicago Convention on International Civil Aviation.
