The 2024 European Film Festival in Muscat opened the door to cooperation opportunities between European countries and the film industry in Oman. As a follow-up to the event, on 9 February 2025, our embassy hosted the first film industry workshop, the local partner of which was Arabwood, the film festival organizer.
At the event, film industry expert Anna Szujó, who also works as a curator and photographer, presented specific film production experiences and solutions to 15 interested professionals. In addition to sharing best practices with the participants, they reviewed the challenges and opportunities facing the film industry in Oman, as well as possible areas of cooperation.
The above was confirmed by the discussion with Fahad Al-Maimani and Tamás Dombóvári, international cooperation officers of the Oman Film Society (OFS). The organization, which has about 180 members, has been organizing the Muscat Film Festival since 2002 and also provides support to Omani filmmakers.
The possibility of using the opportunities offered by Erasmus+ and Stipendium Hungaricum, and continuing studies in Hungary in the form of full-time training or even a summer university, was raised. In connection with the training, OFS were open to further Hungarian film industry professionals visiting Muscat.
