The first meeting of the Omani-Hungarian Joint Committee was held in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, attended by representatives of governmental institutions the two friendly countries.
Two day's of discussion covered prospects for cooperation between the Sultanate of Oman and Hungary, especially in the economic and trade fields. The subjects discussed included renewable energy and green hydrogen, the agricultural sector, water management, science and technology transfers and development.
The Foreign Ministry's Undersecretary for Political Affairs Sheikh Khalifa Alharthy, led Oman's representation at the Committee and Tamas Vargha, Deputy Minister of Defence led Hungary's representation. It was also attended by Barnabas Fodor, Hungary's Ambassador to Oman.
The Committee also discussed the prospects for joint investment, noting the importance of detailed follow-up to achieve the desired mutually beneficial results.
At the end of the discussions, the two sides signed a protocol on the first round of meetings.
During his visit to Hungary, Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Harthy also met with Levente Magyar, State Secretary of the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. They discussed bilateral relations and regional and international issues of concern to the two friendly countries. The Omani delegation visited the Parliament building as one of the cultural highlights of their visit to Hungary.
The next meeting of the Hungarian-Omani Joint Committee is expected to take place next year, in 2024, in the Omani capital, Muscat.
